This is inside the ‘Barn’. There are two Carpentry classrooms to the right and two Cabinetmaking classrooms with a large machine-shop area to the left. The ‘Wall and Ceiling Lining’ area is in the background.

  1. Hi Barry! Thank you for your infomative photos and explaining comments. What is the age range of your students? Is it upper secondary education, adult education or both?

  2. Hi Ingrid,
Our students ages range from 16 - 21 years old but we also have mature age students. To attend our 'Building and Environment' section of the campus the students must be indentured (signed on with an employer in an apprenticeship program). The apprentices attend for 3 years (stages 1, 2, and 3), although we have just compressed our first year stage into 6 months. The stage 2 and 3 students attend 1 day a week for 30 weeks of the year.
In my area we teach 'Certificate 3 in Carpentry'. At school in Australia interested students can complete Certificate 2 competencies that are transferable to Cert 3, stage 1 competencies within the various apprenticeship programmes.

It is a competitive market place for funding and there is a bit of an 'Education War' going on within Australia at the moment, Susanne would be able to confirm this. Funding is being stripped from the publicly funded TAFES with the government preferring the private sector. Often the students education is suffering but having said that their are 'some' very good private providers out there.

    1. We are funded by the government but many privately owned training institutions are appearing within the Australian training framework. We have approximately 600 students spread over Carpentry, Cabinetmaking, Plastering, Painting, Glazing and Tiling. It is a shame but generally sponsors are not interested in our training. Is this the same in Sweden?
