Fix wall and floor tiles

This project is done at the end of stage 1 training of a 3 year Apprenticeship

The picture above is a project our Apprenices do as part of their off the job training.
It involves rendering the 2 back walls plumb and square, build the brick pier 600mm by 1000mm high and render plumb and square. Screed the floor level and flat and build the L shaped shower hob. Mitre tiles and cut tessellated pieces to correct size and tile. Grout tiles and buff clean on completion.

    1. Hello Stefan,

Our Apprentices usually take 4 days to do the whole project. Sometimes, someone will take an extra day based on their productivity. Regards Enzo

  2. Hello Enzo, what is the main component in the tile adhesive?

    1. Hello there, the main component in adhesives is cement silica and addatives. Some modified adhesives can have high grade polymers which can give them some flexibility. Some adhesive manufacturers also use crummed rubber in them from recycled materials. These products are very popular with tiles here.
      Kind regards Enzo

  3. It looks like a good project for the students. Is it costly for the school?

    1. Hello Jesper,

We have great support from our local suppliers of tiles, bricks, and adhesives. We normally purchase tiles for $5 m2 and we buy other materials at wholesale prices which helps keep the cost down. A project like the above would cost approximately $50 per student. it does add up over the whole year, but on the other hand training needs to be relevant to industry requirements. Kind regards Enzo
