This classroom, which is next to the workshop was built by bricklayers and tilers in the third grade. As you can see increases students skills with their experience.
Great that one group of students got to build the wall, and future students get to appreciate it. Your photos indicate that there is a place for students to learn the theory (in this classroom), and the practice happens in the workshop. What do you do to integrate theory and practice? I know in the VET organisation that I used to work in the students would say they disliked theory and loved practice. Some of the really skilled teachers would work to integrate the theory and the practice as much as possible, so that the students learnt the theory while they were undertaking the practice.
There seems to be little difference between students in Australia and Sweden, our students also prefer the practical part of the training. To increase motivation we always try to link theory and practice. For example, when working in the workshop with fireplaces, we use the theory lessons to study material, function and regulations regarding fireplaces. We think this method works quite well.
As I undertand this classroom is laying beside the workarea. Dou you have problems with noise from machinse while teaching theoreticlly or do you only have one class at time?

ReplyDeleteSometime it can be a problem with noice from the workshop, but usually it is the class that work in the workshop which also disposes the classroom.
